MUR "Ty [Romantyka] in Theaters
MUR "Ty [Romantyka]" is Ukraine’s first historical original musical, offering a glimpse into the lives of real writers from the past century—real people, not just names in history books. The story unfolds within the walls of the House of Slovo in Kharkiv, where the Soviet regime executed hundreds of Ukraine’s creative elite in the early 20th century.
MUR "Ty [Romantyka]" brushes off the dust of time from the names of Khvylovy, Kurbas, Sosiura, Semenko… For the first time, history is set to music—the betrayal of poet Pavlo Tychyna, Volodymyr Sosiura’s service in the Third Assault Brigade, the execution of every second Ukrainian writer in the House of Slovo, Mykola Khvylovy’s suicide… Names come alive on screen before your very eyes—an experience beyond words.
Director Oleksandr Khomenko on MUR "Ty [Romantyka]":
"This is not just another production about the tragedy of the Executed Renaissance—because how much longer can we only mourn? This is not a performance with the simple message that 'loving Ukraine will make everything okay.' No. That is not enough. This is a window into the past—where you step in and dissolve into the House of Slovo in Kharkiv, into that era, into the dialogues of Sosiura and Khvylovy. That is what romance is—the ability to travel through time."
